Meet the Team

Hazel Holmes

Publisher. Hazel studied for her MA in Publishing at Oxford Brookes University and returned to Preston to work as the Children’s Book Specialist for Borders. After the company went into administration she was employed by Askews and Holts Library Services as the Children’s Buyer in 2009, supplying libraries across the country with the very best children’s books on the market. Hazel now manages the design, editing and production process with the help of a small freelance team. She produces schedules for every stage of the process and sets the commercial and editorial direction for the business. Hazel works closely with the academic team to imbed the business into the curriculum and guest lectures on the MA in Publishing course, while managing the student Major Projects . She also coordinates The Northern YA Literary Festival.

Charlotte Rothwell

Senior Publishing Assistant. Charlotte graduated from UCLan’s MA Publishing Course in 2019, started working as an Intern the same year and quickly progressed to Publishing Assistant. Charlotte designs digital and print materials for all books and helps to design and implement marketing plans. She manages the office and materials to ensure the smooth running of the business and undertakes a range of admin duties. Charlotte processes financial documents and the bi-annual royalty statements for authors and illustrators. Charlotte also supports the MA Publishing course and the students. 

Becky Mallett

Creative Assistant. After finishing her Master’s Degree at Lancaster University in English Literary Studies, Becky worked in PR and freelanced as a copywriter. Having edited a literary magazine at university, Becky was keen to establish herself in the world of publishing and joined the team in 2024. She designs and creates assets across our lists and manages aspects of book marketing. Becky also carries out proofreads and copy edits and handles the day-to-day running of a busy publishing house.

Jasmine Dove

Editor. Growing up in the Lake District and now living in Manchester, Jasmine started her career in publishing in 2018 as Junior Editor at award-winning children’s publishing house Sweet Cherry Publishing, before moving to UCLan Publishing in 2024. Across both the women’s fiction and children’s lists, Jasmine works closely with authors to structurally edit novels before they are typeset. She is also involved in all other stages of the editorial process, including reading and evaluating submissions, copy editing, proofreading, and overseeing final files for print. Jasmine also edits as a freelancer, and reviews books on her YouTube channel, Jasmine Reads.

Becky Chilcott

Freelance designer and guest lecturer. Becky is one of the most well respected freelancers in the publishing sector and we are honoured to have her on board.

Becky is a graduate in graphic design from the Surrey Institute of Art and Design (now the University for the Creative Arts) and is passionate about book design. She worked for Penguin Random House designing children’s fiction and picture books for four years before going freelance in 2007. She has worked with many of the main publishing houses in the UK including Bloomsbury, Penguin Random House, HarperCollins, Palgrave Macmillan, Egmont and many more.

Alexa Gregson

Alexa has been teaching on the MA since 2016 and has progressed from Associate Lecturer to Course Leader and Teaching Fellow. She is a graduate from UCLan’s MA Publishing and previously worked in academic publishing for Palgrave Macmillan in Marketing and Sales. She has rewritten the curriculum to underpin it using the resources from UCLan Publishing and developed specialist modules to further enhance the course/business integration, UCLan Publishing: Business and Entrepreneurship and The Major Project: The Live Brief.  She is the team’s Publishing Career Expert and has supported numerous students to gain confidence and clarity about how to get into Publishing.
